About the Solidarity Apothecary

What is the Solidarity Apothecary?The Solidarity Apothecary is a grassroots herbalism project providing plant medicines to people experiencing state violence, including prisoners, asylum seekers, and frontline organisers. You can learn more on the About page.

Who runs the Solidarity Apothecary?The project was founded by herbalist and anarchist organiser Nicole Rose and is supported by a network of volunteers, herbalists, and comrades contributing and collaborating in various ways.

How is the project funded?The Solidarity Apothecary relies on income from digital product sales (books and online courses) and donations. If you'd like to support, visit the donation page. All donations are appreciated.

Herbal Support

Who receives herbal medicine from the Solidarity Apothecary?We prioritise support for people experiencing state violence, including:

- Prisoners
- Prisoner families
- Asylum seekers
- Frontline organisers
- Communities affected by policing, detention, and repression

Can I request herbal support?Yes! If you or someone you know could benefit, check out our available herbal care packages.

Are the medicines free?Yes, herbal support is provided free to those who need it. However, donations help sustain the work. See how to donate here.

Do you provide personalised herbal consultations?Yes! Support is available through the Solidarity Apothecary clinic.

Note: One-to-one support will be available again in Winter 2025. Nicole is currently working part-time hours after welcoming her son.

Can you provide herbal support at our event, demonstration, or mobilisation?Potentially! Please get in touch at info@solidarityapothecary.org to discuss. You're welcome to send your Signal details or PGP key. Find the Solidarity Apothecary PGP key here.

Courses and Workshops

Do you offer training on herbalism?Yes! The Solidarity Apothecary creates online courses and workshops to make herbal knowledge accessible. Check out the courses and workshops page.

What topics do your courses cover?Courses cover topics such as:

- Herbalism for PTSD and traumatic stress
- Practical medicine-making
-Herbalism and state violence

And many more! Most are herbalism and/or state violence related.

Are the courses self-paced or live?Most are self-paced so you can study at your own pace. However, Nicole teaches a three-day Practical Medicine Making Intensive in Somerset, England once or twice a year. Learn more here.

Do you offer in-person workshops?Yes! Nicole offers workshops at community gardens and gatherings. However, due to childcare responsibilities, travel is currently limited. If you’d like to host a workshop, please contact info@solidarityapothecary.org.

Paid opportunities, travel expenses, and childcare support make in-person workshops more viable, but the Solidarity Apothecary can cover some costs depending on the project and resources.

The Herbalism, PTSD, and Traumatic Stress course follows a solidarity pricing model—no one is turned away for lack of funds. Learn more here.

Where can I find your books?E-books, including The Prisoner’s Herbal, Overcoming Burnout, The Medicinal Herb Colouring Book, and Herbalism and State Violence, are available in the store here.

You can find a list of stores and distros that stock the physical books here.

Can I distribute The Prisoner’s Herbal in prisons?Yes! We encourage sending copies to incarcerated individuals.

Store and Orders

My card/payment isn’t working. What should I do?Despite our best efforts, we still have some cards that can't rejected by the store but there is not a clear pattern of why!

How do payment plans work?I use a tool called Paythen that takes automatic card payments.
